(Fr.) Richard McBrien advocates taking a "vacation" from Church

“If there are no parishes or other worshipping communities in the vicinity where the pastoral leadership is healthy rather than driven by a narrow ideology, then one simply has to ‘take a vacation’ from the church until the skies finally clear and we are bathed in sunlight once again.”

Ugh. I'd give you the source, but I'd rather you read Fr. Z's fisking of it.

With the coming orthodox renewal in our young seminarians, it could be a very long vacation.

Hi Jeff. It's so sad that controversy has to cloud our vision of God isn't it? Thanks for this link. I also referred to it in my blog. I admire the new Catholics that are bringing renewal to the church. But I can't figure out where to classify them. Are they Orthodox or Traditional? Orthodox will often confuse us Protestants into thinking of the Orthodox Catholic Church which is the other lung. Traditional gets me confused with those who insist on the Latin mass. Conservative...who knows what that means anymore.
Progressive?? Don't get me going...
Thanks for dropping by occasionally to my blog.

Well, while the progressives might use this term in a derogatory manner, I wouldn't mind being called a "restorationist". The goal is to restore and renew the Catholic identity.

"And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in." (Isaiah 58:12)
